Eid is a major Muslim festival that is always greatly anticipated around the world by the diverse Muslim Diaspora. It marks the end of the holy month of fasting (Ramadan), a month of reflection and charity. Eid is the day on which Muslim are urged to demonstrate compassion and humanity to their neighbours and to involve all around them in this celebration.
Britain is a proudly multicultural society into which the Muslim community has been well integrated for some time. London is Britains' most diverse city and is home to a number of now well established events that celebrate and promote cross-cultural understanding. Events such as Diwali, Vaisakhi, Chinese New Year and the Notting Hill Carnival have become major events in the citys' social calendar. In recent years Eid has also become more prominent, with council sponsored events around the city, as well as the main gathering in Trafalgar Square sponsored by the Mayor of London.
